Lazrtag + new release [electro house]

Our old cali friends Lazrtag have a new release out for everyone, exclusively on Beatport [link]. Because they kick loads of ass, they're giving out the title track in all of it's 320 kbs glory.

But dont be cheap and stop there, because the whole single has remixes from bitchen favorites Disco Villains and Cold Blank. I know, tasty.

So THAT'S What I've Been Missing...

justice_03

There's a first time for everything, and I had my virgin Justice cherry popped on Wednesday. I've missed seeing them 3 times by my count, and holy hell what a show. Even though it was just a DJ set, they played plenty of their own tracks on top of other industry favorites (props for gettin' some Chem Bros in there). Here's a few pics I took from the show and a few tracks that have found their way to my inbox. Enjoy bitches!

A couple new things via LA outfit LAZRtag. First are the results of when Vinh and Erik submitted a rework of MJ's "Smooth Criminal" to Buffetlibre's new remix project. And the next being yet another rendition of "Taken Away" by Digitalism. You haven't heard too many of those yet have you? Good.

Pretty pumped that Cold Blank added me to their email list. Another duo from LA dropped this piece of fidgetty goodness, and quite simply it's effin' fire. So there.

Bloop. Bleep. Bleep.

8-bit, chiptune, nintendocore... whatever you want to classify it as (for the record, I call it 8-bit) the electronic subgenre of our generation hits home in a way no other genre can. Whether its the Commodore 64, Atari 2600, NES, or that big grey brick we all had, the GameBoy... 8-bit artists are able to recreate those all-too-familiar bleeps and bloops with software synths or authentic hardware chips to provide their loyal fans with video game-esque theme songs for their lives.

Probably the most commercially successful artist to embrace this subgenre would be Crystal Castles. And while definitely straying further away from true 8-bit than others, the Toronto based duo still do it proper. Posted is "Crimewave" but be sure to also check out a schweet vs with Health and LAZRtag.

Next up is 8 Bit Weapon, who provides tracks a bit more pure and true to form. 8 Bit Weapon has been touring across North America and Europe for a while now, bringing with him an arsenal of hardware to get even the smallest Nintendo fanboy in all of us fraking for more.

Nullsleep is another guy that holds true to the 8-bit roots as evidenced as one of the cofounders of 8bitpeoples, a collective of artists that all share a 'common love for classic videogames and an approach to music which reflected this obsession.' (check out Nullsleep's last.fm page for a slew of tracks he has for free download (woot woot for creative commons!))

Now for something completely brand spankin' new... this coming from Rambrant via my inbox (in full 320 kbs glory (how does that work when it's 8 bit to begin with?)). Anywho, dont know too much about him other than he claims to be from Christmas Island, but with a track and myspace full of German influence... meh I'll hold judgement. Just enjoy the track.

Finally, one from a band that is in no way 8-bit, Disco Villains. But for one reason or another decided to dip themselves in a vat of nintendo and regurgitated this piece of work... nice. [since I got the green light to post their ish, you can expect more posted here soon]

LAZR Day

lazrtag

While watching the German team mount an incredible win over a fearless and formidable Turkey team (as well as enduring ESPN's horrid broadcasting signal [sure sure, its not technically their fault, but someone as huge as ESPN should have weather controlling devices amiright?])... I've been enjoying some tracks from LA based LAZRtag. Their Crystal Castles remix is a splendid blend of 8-bit and other not-so-80's video game noises.

Stick around for another Crystal Castles remix that'll be dropping soon, and hope that these kids will be able to make it out to Chitown for a few shows (where are you promoters?)

Also, check out hot biscuits who had posted earlier about one of LAZRtag's original productions, 'Detonate'. [linky for you to clicky]
