FCC to Google and Verizon: "STFU n00b" [soapbox]

Oh how relieved I was to read how FCC commish basically said 'Thanks, but no thanks' to Google and Verizon's shady 7-tiered plan to end the internetz.

“Some will claim this announcement moves the discussion forward. That’s one of its many problems. It is time to move a decision forward—a decision to reassert FCC authority over broadband telecommunications, to guarantee an open Internet now and forever, and to put the interests of consumers in front of the interests of giant corporations.”

That needs to be bulletin board material for congressmen and women out there to remind them when voting on legislation that the FCC themselves will not be bought by the corporate dollar. How refreshing to read a man of that position isn't afraid to speak what so many of us in the public sector feel about this subject. Didn't we already see what happens when large corporations try to write the rules in their own self interest? a la wall street? So how about we let the government do what it's supposed to do, and service the public with new legislation ensuring net neutrality forever!
