bestuvoate: Grum + Le Castle Vania
I read a quote on another blog somewhere about GRUM, "Its not about quantity, its about quality"... does that ever hold true for this Leeds, UK native. GRUM is one distortion-electro artist that is just on the verge... his own remix contest feat "Woah", a stable of top tier remixes (Revolte, Armand Van Helden, Anoraak), not to mention getting remixed by some of the best in the world leaves a fitting spot for the #9 track of the year.
GRUM - Go Back (Le Castle Vania Remix) | download
Le Castle Vania, or just Dylan to his friends in the ATL, has steadily grown this year into one of the ace-est names in electro (you have heard his new "Rave Is King" remix right?). From being heavily influenced by rock, alternative, techno, and eventually d&b in his early DJ'ing days, LCV brings a fresh and innovative sound to the burgeoning electro scene. Perhaps innovative isn't the best word, but he doesn't just toss out remix after remix to get his name on the interwebs each week like some of his peers... but he drops finely polished examples of what electro should be. So he's innovative in that respect.
You can definitely hear his hard rock influences in this remix of "Go Back", as he features just about everything that's good in electronic music today. Crunchy synths, rave style high ends, original additions with the vocoder, and staple buildups and breaks (even a bit of wood block). He did everything right in this track, that makes it easy to see why respected DJ's across the globe have featured his work as a crowd favorite.

The American Dream Team '08 Movie Trailer from The American Dream Team on Vimeo.
I'm pretty sure I've yet to cover The American Dream Team (TADT). I'm seen them on every other blog and their cousins... but I've never had the pleasure of getting anything direct from them to post. The band that started in Brooklyn, and has taken the hip-hop/electro fusion to the next level by introducing turntablism and the type of visual stimulation that only specialist niche genres are used to (us blog house bitches dont get this kind of treatment right?) Well TADT has altered the beast (best game evar)... do yourselves a favor and hit up the following *gasp* mix for more glorious tunes from The American Dream Team.

Woah.
GRUM might be the most blogged about artist in the last couple weeks, much in thanks to a remix contest for his newest single "Woah" (btw i just noticed that it's not spelled the same as A-Trak's "Say Whoa"... weird). I featured one such remix a little over a week ago from FutureFlashs, and today bring you another couple submissions from Clockwork and DJ Lapse.
Henry Steinway aka Clockwork from LA has been featured here before on soquitcherbitchen. He doesn't have the largest catalogue of music as of yet, but has kept himself busy remixing a wide range of artists from Cut Copy and New Order, to No Doubt, Kanye, and now the GRUM remix. This is by far his best work with some decent breaks. He'll continue to improve as he finds his own groove and sound.
Mp3: GRUM - Woah (Clockwork Remix)
Featured already by a handful of blogs, but crucial in my segway is DJ Lapse. He threw this at me not too long ago, and just hadn't ever gotten around to it. Shame on me as not only is this track a top runner for the GRUM contest, but is evidence of a producer with a passion for electro. Terrance Pearce is from the Mother City (Cape Town, South Africa) and has been DJ'ing for a solid 8 years running now, but has recently cemented himself into production. He's inspired by the local scene which includes anything from funk, soul, house, electro, and most notably Kwaito, the native South African dance music. It sounds like I will most definitely be enjoying my time down there in 2010 when I go to watch the World Cup.

Mp3: Lapse - Waxploitation
Which seamlessly connects me to my next two tracks. Also hailing from South Africa, which actually has a very deep fanbase for electronic music, is DJ Mujava. I was pointed to this track by Lapse as a prime example of Kwaito. The track itself reminds me of a mix between Booka Shade and SMD. Kwaito is the native South African electronic music genre that's is based on house music but featuring a typically slower tempo, sweeping deep basslines, and often shouting lyrics (as opposed to rapping). "Township Funk" has simply exploded and many of the biggest producers started playing it in their sets (i'm talking huge in the likes of Erol Alkan, Sinden, Modeselektor, Crookers, Bloody Beetroots, etc).

Emptying That Inbox Bitches!
Something that I might not yet understand in regards to music and mp3 blogging. When an artist/band/label sends you a track, unless otherwise stated, they are giving you permission to post that track on your blog. Right? Did I miss a memo somewhere... cos while I haven't yet received any warnings personally about violating any RIAA etc rules, I know other blogs have. Other way more successful and coherent blogs. What gives those agencies the tip is beyond me. Btw, all these straight from the gmail account.

Where have I been?
Damn guys, sorry about the huge ace delay in posting. The summer weather along with work, softball, and too much drinking has led to a sacrifice in functional time I can spend on the real important things (like this site). I promise to make things up to you as I have an increasingly growing inbox and songs that need posting.
Lemme start off with something from Tronik Youth, and a remix by GRUM. I dont know where I got these songs from, nor how old they are, but I efkin' love them both. GRUM just knows how to implode planets, and Tronik gave him some great material.

Next up is a lilsuhmnsuhmn from Cryptonites, as interpreted by Fantastdon. If anyone can show me a track by Cryptonites that sucks, I will punch that person in the throat and call erroneous. This new wave of elretro (yea i spelled that right, retro styled electro) players all remix themselves in a huge orgy of sub-genre incest. But unlike real incest that breeds mutant children with stubs for arms, this type breeds floor killing discotheque tracks.
Mp3: Cryptonites - Can't Give You Up (Fantastadon Remix)
Finally, why dont we stick on the Cryptonite track and set something up for next week's set of Coldplay shows at the United Center. I first saw Coldplay at State Theater in Detroit (now called the Fillmore) my summer after senior year in high school (the show of which was phenomenal for a little band that nobody cared for outside of "Yellow"). and since their first phenomenal album, my interest in them has faded, ironically not due to their rising popularity, but because their sound just became too perfect, too big, too not-what-I-loved-about-them. But they're still frickin amazing, and I'll stop my drivel which was basically me complaining that a band is too good. Here's a couple tracks that I thought didn't suck.
