One of the most visually stimulating and entertaining live acts around, Simian Mobile Disco will be gracing the Second City at the Metro this Friday in continuing their NA tour. The duo out of London has a couple new tracks and videos out that have stormed the blogs the last few months. Not for lack of reason though, as this crew consistently has the tightest and most interesting electronica in the industry.
We at soquitcherbitchen are priveledged to be able to hand out two pairs of tickets for Friday night's festivus. One set of tickets for just the live Metro performance (this will be an 18+ sh0w), as well as one set of all building passes (21+ required gets you in for both the Metro live performance as well as their DJ set at Smartbar later that night).

Living in a big city is tiring, and I find myself a lot of the time wanting to do nothing but flop on the couch, watch reruns of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and boil my future-children with my laptop while perusing the interwebs for music. And I'd like to share with you my journey:
Things got started after reading another amazing post about Van She, this time from fellow Chicago blogger redthreat. The aussie groupe-deluxe whose inspirations stem from 80's post punk, synth-electro-pop, early 90's grunge, krautrock, etc, will have a new album coming out in august, but their remixes are out and about now, which all kick wombat ass. Here's a few remixes I'm digging atm.
I give their last.fm page a check and started clicking around. End up going to a few places. First was fellow Australian cosmic-synth-indie-rockers Midnight Juggernauts, who's listed under similar artists. This put me in the mood to listen to one of my favorite albums of the last year, Dystopia (aussie release august 2007, domestic comes out this month).
The other path involved a click on a user comment which led me to the blog, Too Many Sebastians (clever name). While browsing his site, I noticed a post on Swedish electro phenom, Din Stalker. Really diggin Herr Reporter and all of its 8-bit glory. Visit his space for more material.
That blog [Too Many Sebastians] got me on an urge to listen to some of that namesake. The Distort edit of SebastiAn's new single followed by Midnight Juggernauts remix on Sebastian Tellier's Divine remedied that storm.
It just so happened that not too far down my playlist is a song that was used as an opener of a dj set by another one of my favorite groups, at my favorite night spot. Simian Mobile Disco playing Sleep Deprivation at Sonotheque (it rocked my socks off).
That for the most part wrapped up my Sunday night. Nothing too exciting, but nothing short of spectacular at the same time. Hope your weekend was at least as fulfilling, and quitcherbitchen.
I just got my copy of Grand Theft Auto IV for PS3 in the mail yesterday... and how is this for an amazing first impression:
I punch a hooker in the face, steal her money, turn around and find a kick ace bmw clone stopped at a red light. Then I do what anyone else would do in that situation, open the door, punch the driver in the kidney, throw him to the ground and steal his car. Play with the radio stations a bit til I find the electro station, and "BEROOO BEROOO BEROOO deh deh DEH DIT".
That's right bitches, none other than Boys Noize "& Down" was the first track I heard in GTA4. Check out the full tracklist to the electro station below (via the totally reliable wikipedia), which should be reason enough to get this game.

So a week or so after MSTRKRFT pwn3d the ish out of chitown, came one incredible week for any electrobot. Things kicked off at one of my favorite locales, Sonotheque, where Simian Mobile Disco did a DJ set for about 250+ crazed hipsters all jammed like sardines into the sehr intimate, sehr loud, und sehr bier freundlich venue (where else can you drink Beamish Irish Stout, Old Speckled Hen English Ale, and PBR's all night? psshhh... New York? please...)

Since it was technically just a DJ set, instead of a full blown live show, they didn't play too much of their own material, (at least not what I could recognize), rather they played a large collection of bangin' remixes. One from ZZT was most noticeable, which really got surprisingly educated crowd in an anticipation frenzy culminating in a thumping atmosphere.

Overall the set was great, however I wish that they were more out in the open rather than cooped up in the bubble that Sonotheque features (not their fault). I heard that SMD usually has a pretty impressive stage set up, but that must be for their actual shows. They played til the owners flipped the lights and kicked everyone out... so I guess that's a success! Afterall, didn't have a lot of time to recover tho, as Digitalism was next on the agenda. [Will our hero be able to recover from a night of electro remixes? Or was SMD too much for one man to handle. We'll find out tomorrow, on the next episode of 'Chicago is better than Brooklyn'. Same bangin' time, same bangin' channel.]
