Dskotek [jackin']

Been a while since we posted anything from west coaster Dskotek. He was on our bestuvoate segment last winter and has a knack for remixing some of the most popular and beloved songs and making them glitchy, bouncy, dancefloor burners. Not a bad gig if you're into that sorta thing (luckily we are here).

We dont always post the more popular top40 ish... but sometimes its due for a change (bonus if you're looking for tracks to work with a less electro-friendly crowd)

Drake - Forever (Dskotek Remix) | 320 kbs

Beyonce - Sweet Dreams (Dskotek Remix) | 320 kbs

bestuvoate: MGMT + Dskotek

best_dskotek

MGMT might easily be the biggest band to emerge on the charts this year. Their combination of indie and electro appeal are a 1-2 punch in the blog world, which also leaves many of their tracks to be easily accessable to remixing. Electric Feel has been my favorite MGMT track since the spring when their video featuring the Show-Biz Pizza gang re-haunted my dreams (seriously... those fockers are scary).

And since then, we have seen dozens over dozens of MGMT remixes... some are garbage that feature no creativity or promise. While others emerged as dancefloor-killing tracks, such as our #16 remix today from Dskotek.

Dskotek is an up and coming DJ/remixer from the ever growing and popular scene in Los Angeles (some would say he has already arrived with remixes from incredibly popular acts including MIA, Bloody Beetroots, Crookers, and MSTRKRFT). He even has a very solidly defined sound and style, as many of his tracks feature the same intensely frantic jacked up glitchyness that orders your body to move in ways that would've been illegal decades ago.

Back in the swing of things...

Sorry for the exuberant lack of posts this month. Between the election, a sorely needed vacation, car trouble and our building's internet and satellite being in the middle of an overhaul... blogging has been left on the back burner. But hopefully this will continue a solid streak of good tunes and event info (started with my last post about Calamity Jane's Black and Pink Ball).

It was a looong time ago when this landed in the inbox, and Chewy Chocolate Cookies caught me at the completely wrong time. While this isn't my favorite remix from CCC, I'm just gitty that they actually included me in their list.

TANZ/TANZ is the first Swedish electronic duo that I've come across who stealth away from the iconic Swedtastic Indie-pop-mnml sound and into something much more fidget house (me likey) ARE FROM EFFIN SWITZERLAND! And I cant wait to hear more from these guys.

So MGMT's "Electric Feel" is close to my favorite track released this year... and when combined with one of my favorite remixers, Dskotek, who's style of up tempo electro house makes this easily the best thing to romp with on the hardwood. .

Mr Mike Weez from Chicago comes back with a more than legit old school remix from Outkast's "B.O.B.". He still has no myspace, but if you knock on his door long enough, maybe he'll wake up and at least get a Virb account.

Thrills has been up on my short list for remixers to watch out for. His catalogue is ginormous as it stands, and this new Claire Hux remix makes the agnostic in all of us start second guess the power of an Halleileuja. [note: head over to beatport to check his new remix of Alex Zelenka's "Bide to Abide"] XD

Got this track last week from OK City duo Trash Yourself. If you like dirty electrotrash sounds, then give this a listen. Especially if you're in the LA area this Thursday 11/20... you'll be able to see Trash Yourself along side /bitchen favorites Dskotek, Teen Wolf, and Big Nasty at The House Lounge.

BONUS: Speaking of Big Nasty, here's his latest bangerang that Hot Biscuits helped reach the top of the hypem charts.

Bloody Beetroots + Alex Darkly + Dskotek

Mp3: The Bloody Beetroots - Rombo (Alex Darkly Remix) | download [The young buck from Perth is starting to find his groove with another ace remix in the hole. Similar wet and heavy synth work that was found on his last Ladyhawke remix has gotten even sloppier and I love it]

Mp3: The Bloody Beetroots - Rombo (Dskotek Remix) | download [i think the last i posted from LA based Dskotek was Paper Planes (which hit #1 on hypemachine, bitches). He's got a very defined glitched out sound with a hint of 90's rave. It effin' works. hard.]

Crookers + Dskotek

dsko

By now I'm sure most of you have heard the Paper Planes remix done by Dskotek (just a few posts below this), and is arguably and critically the best remix released thus far (at least in my critical opinion, if that matters). A brief stay at his myspace page, and you'll have heard another bangin' west coast remix, this time of "Chippin'" by Italo Disco duo Crookers. He'll be busy playing live sets all over the west coast this fall, so hopefully he'll keep up enough free time to bust out a few more fire-starters.

Well for starters... I just wanted to say that the Danger show last night was pretty effin' sweet. Not the most epic thing I've ever seen, and the crowd was sparse if not absent... but the music was enough. He played a good hour and half and I was able to recognize just about everything he thru down (including that SymbolOne remix that I love oh so much). I only would've hoped that a city this size could easily host a giant in any genre of music. If we can get not one but TWO sold out shows for Avril fuckin' Lavine... why cant we get a couple hundred kids in to see one of the most blogged about electro artists this year.

But I digress. I'm really just here to post a couple of remixes that've been floating around and have seen solid rotation on my mp3 player. You've all heard the original on repeat on B96... well mix it up a bit bitches.
