Lollapalooza Lineup Announced!

rage_lolla

Chicago's 'biggest' outdoor music festival of the year (i say that in pure size only, not necessarily in anticipation) has finally announced their lineup. Three days and nights of rock, folk, indie, hip hop and electro. And well... I'd have to say its a bit underwhelming.

At least underwhelming in regards to the closing acts. No Daft Punk, no Radiohead, no Rage... just The Killers (tic). Seriously not into listening to Depeche Mode promote their new album, never liked Tool, the Killers are sell outs, Jane's Addiction hasn't been relevant in 15 years, Kings of Leon frickin played a 4pm set two years ago and are now headlining? No thanks... Beastie Boys are the only interesting ones.

But to be honest, it's never the headliners that make this festival successful. It's the day acts that makes the cost of your ticket worthwhile. And there are PLENTY of good ones this year. Out and about spread thru the three days are dozens of rock/folk/indie staples in many of your playlists. Arctic Monkeys, Crystal Castles, Fleet Foxes, Friendly Fires, Hey Champ, Passion Pit, Vampire Weekend, Animal Collective, etc.

But then there's the ever growing and ever more popular Perry's Tent (for this blogs' readers). Here you'll find some of electronica's biggest names and acts: MSTRKRFT, Simian Mobile Disco, Deadmau5, Boys Noize, Crookers, A-Trak, Bloody Beetroots, LA Riots, and a dozen more. I'll be spending most of my time here as its like our own Ultra Festival w/o the $500 plane ticket during spring break season.

Lollapalooza Schedule Finally Released...

I mean seriously... why the hell did it take this long for the Lolla schedule to come out. The festival is less than 5 weeks away, and some people need to schedule vacation days. Looking at the band list at first glance seems pretty sweet, I mean there are a LOT of awesome acts playing across the three days. But that's the problem, it's across 3 days, and that's a lot of Chicago heat/humidity and money to be spending ($190 advance, $205 for 3-day pass) for a watered down set list. I really cant decide what day/s to go to. Not that there are so many good bands, but no one day seems really interesting.

Day 1 for some reason has Radiohead closing, when I originally had them penned in with permanent marker to close the festival out on Sunday (a la Pearl Jam 2007). Saturday you have Wilco and Rage closing, which kicks ass, and with the acts before them, might actually be the best day. Sunday looks like crap, with Kanye and Reznor closing the doors (sorry, just not the biggest fan).

But here's the problem, you only see one closing band, so you better have enough good acts throughout the day to constitute an $80 ticket. In my opinion, that only day is Saturday. As much as I'd like to see Radiohead, that would mean another vacation day (which I already dont have many left), and nothing else really catches my eye that day.

Lollapalooza 08 lineup 'officially' revealed

Last Thursday, our friends at the Chicago Sun-Times thought that we all deserved a bit of info ahead of schedule. For those that couldn't wait the extra few days until the lineup was 'officially' revealed, Jim DeRogatis (the same el douche who dislikes Vampire Weekend because they were wearing sweaters at SXSW in 92 degree weather, and takes compliment of being called Pepe LePew because quote 'Pepe gets all the girls') wrote in his column a list of headliners and other high profile artists coming to Chicago this August. The 'official' official list comes out tomorrow, but Jim DeRogatis felt like pissing Perry Farrell off even more by releasing the full list to us today. Thanks Jim... dick.

I like seeing CSS, MGMT, Chromeo, and Uffie on the list (maybe not Uffie, but if Feadz is with her, it'll be bangin beats at the very least. And Office is probably my favorite local flavor on the list. If you haven't heard any Office yet, please remedy that now.
