The Return of the Villains (Disco)

We-All-Wanna-Be-Prince-(Single)-by-Felix-Da-Housecat_RZOWqAOObHEx_full

Sorry for the delay [insert excuse here]. If anybody reads this blog anymore, you may remember that we get regular updates from our Mexicali friends Louie Fresco and Tony Edit... aka Disco Villains. After several months of silence and diligent studio work, they've released their new EP (not new anymore if you consider it's been out since August).

Check out beatport for the EP... but get your dance feet prepped with some of their own remix material from the last couple months.

Shark Attack - Ghost Knives (Disco Villains Remix) | 320 kbs

Felix Da Housecat - We All Wanna Be Prince (Disco Villains Remix) | 320 kbs

The Disco Villains - We Just Came To Get The Party Started (NightDrugs Remix) | 320 kbs

Bring On The Thump!

City_Borders_by_Orioto

Villains are back baby!! They easily have the most thunderous and violent thumps in the clubs. Plenty of imitators, but only one true Villains.

French house has taken a back seat so far this year, but not for fault of not trying. Just has been overshadowed by the other many bright spots so far this year (mind giving up some of that spotlight Royksopp?). But The Exo is an outfit out of Paris that more than makes up for it with their thumps.

Mr Oizo - Positif (The Exo 'What The Fuuuck' Remix) | download [320 kbs]

Khia - My Neck My Back (The Exo Remix) | download [320 kbs]

I posted this earlier last month, but then it wasn't yet available for download. Now we've got the 320 kbs thumpin' ass version that hurts my insides. Fuck you Franz Ferdinand and your post-punk cuteness. Zodiac Cartel just pwn'd you.

pwn3d.

No post of epic-esque proportions would be complete without a little Disco Villains. Louie Fresco and co. slaughtered a childhood favorite in such a way that I'll never be able to listen to the original again. Thanks a lot DV (tic).

Ace Of Base - All That She Wants (The Disco Villains Remix) | download [320 kbs]

Something Wrong has been a consistent member of the old inbox. The Bay Area producer, who is one-half part of NONEWYORK, is quickly rising up my charts as the next emerging blog artist.

I need to apologize straight up to Louie Fresco and Tony/Edit of Disco Villains for not getting their previous ish up in a timely manner. Those who haven't noticed, will know now that soquitcherbitchen has hit a road block in posting. Excuses aside, my time hasn't been readily available... and I owe it to those artists that personally send me material to get their ish up for the masses.

So first... their February Mixtape. This isn't just any normal mixtape though, as it might as well be named "Transport-me-back-over-the-last-six-months-of-ace-Disco-Villains-mix". Because that's what they did with this, as well as provide a bit of a tribute to all the bands and artists they've opened for and played with since June of last year. It's been quite the rapid rise of success, but I dont think they're quite satisfied yet.

01 The Disco Villains - Medley (THIS IS NOT A REMIX)
02 Justice vs Simian - We Are Your Friends (The Disco Villains Remix)
03 Jupiter One - Countdown (Designer Drugs Remix)
04 David Guetta ft. Thailand - Joan of Arc (Crookers Remix)
05 Wu-Tang Clan - Gravel Pit (The Disco Villains Remix)
06 Crookers - What Up Y'All (Dirty Disco Youth Remix)
07 From the Monument to Masses - Beyond Good & Elvis (Felix Cartal Remix)
08 Unkle - Restless (Fake Blood Remix)
09 Robbie Williams - Lovelight (Soulwax Remix)
10 The Rapture - House of Jealous Lovers (The Disco Villains Remix)
11 Partyshank vs Yo Majesty
12 Gorillaz - Dirty Harry (The Disco Villains Remix)
13 50 Cent - In Da Club (The Disco Villains Remix)
14 A1 Bassline vs Dean Tynan - Pussy
15 Big Dope P - Back to the Old Future (The Disco Villains Remix)
16 Alphabeat - Boyfriend (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)
17 Ludacris - Move Bitch (The Disco Villains Remix)
18 Lazaro Casanova - Venganza (Felix Cartal Remix)
19 MSTRKRFT - Street Justice (MSTRKRFT Remix)

And also, their last set of official releases that have seen plenty of rotation on teh blogz, but need to be posted as they're all effin' sweetness. Tell me, can you hear the Disco Villains' "sound" yet? I like to think I can...

Limp Bizkit - Nookie (The Disco Villains Remix) | download [320 kbs]

I'm not grumpy anymore!

Now THAT'S what I call Boilermaker basketball. I'm in a good mood folks, which means a generous mood. Here's a slew of ish I've been sitting on for much too long. Speaking of, not much puts me in a better mood than when Disco Villains drops me a line. I know it's been out on the blogs before, but I like getting the tracks direct, and in turn giving them to you.

N.E.R.D. - Rockstar (Disco Villains Remix) | download

Marc Ustari is a new bloke out of the UK who recently got runner-up honors in the GRUM remix contest (check it on hypem). Being heavily influenced by the big boys like Soulwax, Digitalism and MSTRKRFT, he gives us something relatably hard and stabby.

DatA - Rapture ft. Sebastien Grainger (Marc Ustari Remix) | download

Crash Overdrive are a new outfit from Los Angeles who give a solid 4x4 house beat with wet and cosmic synthwork that I think you'll all really enjoy. I love it when new artists release their tracks at full 320 kbs with good production quality. Aspiring producers just take notes.

Danger - 11h30 (Crash Overdrive Remix) | download

Crash Overdrive - Expanded 2 | download

Finally, something a little less orthodox on the bitchen remix front... a Britney Spears remix. Orange County based DJ/producer Robin Da Hood threw us this ravish version of "Circus", of course being the new single from the queen of my adolescence.

BONUS: I hope you enjoyed the Discoballistic remix of Keenhouse last week. Because here is some more frantic yet pleasing electro from the upstart Sydney outfit.

I'm grumpy

I'm angry. Angry that Purdue can't play like they're capable, at home, against a mediocre and unranked Illinois team. When are these shots going to start falling? Ugh... none of you care. Here are some new tracks. All 320 kbs except the Disco Trash Music remix. Can't win 'em all I guess. Thanks to Disco Trash for sending over a 320k version!

Mailbox Mundays

Working 10 hour days (and getting paid for 8 of them) recently has been a burden on posting music. I apologize to those that sent me songs that got no reply, I will be better in the future. Here's a collection of songs that are too good to stay cooped up in the inbox.

Mp3:
Sneaky Sound System - When We Were Young (GLOVES Remix) | download [yea, the track has been up on a hundred blogs in the last 4 days. eat me bitches (yea, early 90's diss in yo face)]

Mp3: The Cool Kids - A Party (For Everyone (Get Involved (Logarhythmix))) | download [i've yet to get a notice from the RIAA... but i'm sure that will change now. Beverly Hills Cop vs The Cool Kids]

Mp3: Sidechains vs Ultranate - Endless Summer vs Free | download [one of a group of 3 stellar tracks sent over off the 2nd Buffetlibre Remix Project, set to release in January. This term covers the 70's, 80's (again), and some 90's]

kraft

Mp3: Michael Jackson - Beat It (Mr Vega Remix) | download [another nice piece of glitched out electro from our friend Mr Vega... this time featuring the King of Pop. Only immediate critique is the vocals getting muddled a bit]

Mp3: Pallers - Humdrum | download [what sounds like a new Cut Copy single is actually Swedish electronica duo Pallers. The formula works--airy vocals, astral sweeps, and emotional basslines]

Mp3: Disco Villains - Cali Luv | download [i might actually be posting a DV song before hot bizzies... the worlds new favorite deejays hit the studio for some original production work. still only demo quality, but once it hits the hypem popular lists they'll have to master it (right guys?)]

Emptying That Inbox Bitches!

communism

Something that I might not yet understand in regards to music and mp3 blogging. When an artist/band/label sends you a track, unless otherwise stated, they are giving you permission to post that track on your blog. Right? Did I miss a memo somewhere... cos while I haven't yet received any warnings personally about violating any RIAA etc rules, I know other blogs have. Other way more successful and coherent blogs. What gives those agencies the tip is beyond me. Btw, all these straight from the gmail account.

Mp3: GRUM - Whoa (FutureFlashs Disco Mix) | download [so i hear grum is making his first US appearance in November as part of his remix contest with Finger On The Pulse in New York. too bad chicago isn't on the agenda, bitches]

Alternative content

Mp3: Proxy - Raven (Dirty Disco Youth Remix) | download [the hamburg remixer puts the heavy crunch on the proxy's industrial masterpiece (is that not the creepiest song you've ever heard?)]

Alternative content

Mp3: Hall & Oates - Out of Touch (Action Jackson Remix) | download [other than watching both the goonies and karate kid this weekend... this song brings me back to the good times]

Alternative content

Mp3: Ladyhawke - Dusk Til Dawn (Alex Darkly Remix) | download [when I love an original track, it's sometimes difficult to stomach remixes that drift too far away from what you loved in the original. Thankfully Alex Darkly kept it in the ballpark]

Alternative content

Mp3: Mr Vega - Techno-color | download [new track from brooklyn remixer/producer Joshua Vega. His last.fm page is full of his other tracks, all worthwhile for a listen]

Alternative content

Mp3: Wu-Tang Clan - Gravel Pit (Disco Villains Remix) | download [by far my favorite Wu-Tang song, and Disco Villains pwnd the ish out of this one yet again. btw the disco villains are absolutely exploding, as long as you consider Rolling Stone coverage exploding (even tho the editors byte was worthless)]

Alternative content

Mp3: OldSchoolReunion - Bring Me the Accapella | download [you guys knew that James & Celeste picked up an EP deal with On the Fruit Records right? well now you know, and it's probably going to be pretty epic... i've loved every one of their other releases, why stop now?]

Alternative content

Mp3: Gordon Gonzola - Psycho Disco | download [i only wish the break in this was 4 measures instead of 8... else this is a perfect house track to work into any mix... dj's take note]

Sexy Neon Disco-Buddy

dv04

There aren't many emails I look forward to more than the ones sent by Mr Luis Flores from Disco Villains. The duo from Arizona have typically out-done themselves week in and week out. And this week they tag teamed a Buddy Akai track, which if I could be completely honest, isn't my favorite. The production is still top shelf which we've come to expect from DV, but this time around it was mainly the vocals which seemed distant and artificial to the track. I'll let you judge for yourself. But in case your opinion follows mine, I've also added their remix from Noise Beat Propaganda, you cant go wrong with flexing basslines and cowbell amiright?

Move /bitchen

share-alike from metaphorge

I think I finally beat my bud Kyle over at hot bizzies in posting a Disco Villains track. He's been covering these guys like white on rice for a good couple months now, and with good reason... Disco Villains have been busting out the remixes and productions faster and hotter than an Arizona wildfire.

And I usually ALWAYS steer clear of top40 ish (just not usually my cuppotea)... but Disco Villains disguise it in enough electro, it might as well be a new song entirely.

Mp3: Ludacris - Move Bitch (Disco Villains Remix) (320 kbs)

EDIT: haha... nevermind... he was still faster

Bloop. Bleep. Bleep.

8-bit, chiptune, nintendocore... whatever you want to classify it as (for the record, I call it 8-bit) the electronic subgenre of our generation hits home in a way no other genre can. Whether its the Commodore 64, Atari 2600, NES, or that big grey brick we all had, the GameBoy... 8-bit artists are able to recreate those all-too-familiar bleeps and bloops with software synths or authentic hardware chips to provide their loyal fans with video game-esque theme songs for their lives.

8bit02
courtesy of katutaide

Probably the most commercially successful artist to embrace this subgenre would be Crystal Castles. And while definitely straying further away from true 8-bit than others, the Toronto based duo still do it proper. Posted is "Crimewave" but be sure to also check out a schweet vs with Health and LAZRtag.

Next up is 8 Bit Weapon, who provides tracks a bit more pure and true to form. 8 Bit Weapon has been touring across North America and Europe for a while now, bringing with him an arsenal of hardware to get even the smallest Nintendo fanboy in all of us fraking for more.

Mp3: 8 Bit Weapon - GameBoy Rocker

Nullsleep is another guy that holds true to the 8-bit roots as evidenced as one of the cofounders of 8bitpeoples, a collective of artists that all share a 'common love for classic videogames and an approach to music which reflected this obsession.' (check out Nullsleep's last.fm page for a slew of tracks he has for free download (woot woot for creative commons!))

Now for something completely brand spankin' new... this coming from Rambrant via my inbox (in full 320 kbs glory (how does that work when it's 8 bit to begin with?)). Anywho, dont know too much about him other than he claims to be from Christmas Island, but with a track and myspace full of German influence... meh I'll hold judgement. Just enjoy the track.

Mp3: Rambrandt - ALARM!

Finally, one from a band that is in no way 8-bit, Disco Villains. But for one reason or another decided to dip themselves in a vat of nintendo and regurgitated this piece of work... nice. [since I got the green light to post their ish, you can expect more posted here soon]
