Lights Over LA
Introducing to you with an effin' bang is LightsoverLA. Storm and Tru sent me these via SoundCloud and I was throttled at the epic buildup in their mashup that lasts well over a minute and will leave the crowd jumping and guessing multiple times. Expect more remixes on the horizon from this LA outfit in the near future. BTW, that's a mashup of Deadmau5's "The Reward Is Cheese" and MSTRKRFT's "Bounce".

Move over lightweights, its time for the big boys to play. I had the pleasure of seeing both MSTRKRT and The Bloody Beetroots twice this year (once even at the same effin' time). Both have such incredible stage presence, and play with the kind of tenacity that gets the entire crowd literally bouncing in unison.

Put that segue in yer pipe and smoke it! MSTRKRFT, who've had their remixing shoes on for over two years now, saw their first original production since 2006 (Bounce feat N.O.R.E) in some very impressive remixing company that included A-Trak, Felix Cartal, and our #8 remixer of the year, The Bloody Beetroots.
The Italian DJ/producing duo have had a huge year themselves, and their building reputation from pwning the ish out of dance floor patrons has caused a huge buzz in each of their consecutive releases. Their remix of Bounce featured their staple bass and compression-heavy sound, buzzing synths, and a bit of glitch in the vocal work. All in all its another very dance floor friendly addition to the Beetroots' catalogue... all they do is party.

Fists of MSTRKRFT
Unless you've been hiding under a rock the last few weeks (and who'd blame you after that abysmal performance by the Cubs this postseason)... then you probably already heard about the MSTRKRFT North American tour that's taking place. The show was originally planned to be at the Metro this coming Tuesday 10/07, but due to the Cubs tentative playoff schedule, it has since been moved to the Double Door that same night (btw, I blame this kind of jinx in scheduling as part of the Cubs' demise).
Opening for MSTRKRFT will be Felix Cartal, Congorock, and Chitown's own Black Holes. If this show is even half as good as the last time they came to town last March, then this will mosdef be the show-of-the-fall.

Say whooza whuzza?
Remember a few days ago when I posted a few things from German dj/producer/remixer FutureFlashes? Of course you do... and if you read seemingly ANY other electronic music blog, you will have already heard this new track he sent me.
The Thomas Bangalter remix has been on the top of the Hype Machine charts all this week so far, and since Hype Machine has continually snubbed my application, I'll just post it without the need for their aggregating support.

I'm not going to pretend to know anything about j-pop and the artists associated with that genre of music. But I do know that this woman is beyond gorgeous... and that Young Punx! and MSTRKRFT did a pretty schweet job at making her songs (western) dance floor acceptable.

All these tracks have enjoyed a great amount of play on my mp3 player over the last several months, and while none are considered 'new' by any means (especially in the fickelitist blogging world), they might be new to you... so here ya go bitches.

"You need to move to NYC..."
I'm not saying that Chitown is the Mecca of electro, or the end-all of stops for dj sets in this country... but one of my friends who currently resides in Brooklyn recently suggested that I move out there if I wanna get the chance to see all the bands and artists that 'just drop in'.
Well I've been meaning to post some of these reviews of recent artists that happened to 'just drop in' to our unknown town of Chicago. So this looks to be as good an excuse as any to finally update you all with them.
The month of March started off with a bang when MSTRKRFT and The Bloody Beetroots made a pass thru 'Chicago's World Class Mega Club' (tic). [prior review] needless to say, kicked my ass.

MSTRKRFT PWNS CHITOWN
Those damn Canadians did it again and showed us lame Americans that there's more to good dance and electronica music than what MTV and Top100 radio forces us down our listening throats at the clubs each weekend (regardless of the preconceived notions of the venue at Vision).
The ridiculously cold night (in March) warmed up quickly once we stepped inside, which was just as Bloody Beetroots and their signature Venom masks started quite the unexpected and exhilarating set. To be honest, I had never heard of them prior, and actually thought they might've been MSTRKRFT in their hockey masks at first. But regardless, they laid down some great tracks, and definitely got the entire room of 1200+ pumped for more. Unfortunately their set didn't feature a lot of lights, so my camera wasn't able to get many great shots. My apologies for the shottiness.
Then came the headliners, MSTRKRFT, who held true to their billing in giving electric performances. I was only semi-disappointed that they didn't come out with their own signature masks of the Jason Voorhees variety. However there were plenty of those in crowd to make up for it (props to those who came prepared). Keynotes of their set were obviously a pair of their singles "Street Justice" and "Easy Love". Also one of my personal faves "Paris" was in the mix (if my half-inebriated mind remembered correctly). And of course there were remixes, including their edits of Justice's "D.A.N.C.E." and Kylie Minogue's "Wow".
Overall I was truly impressed, not only with the intensity and scope of their show, but with the overall atmosphere the bands brought with them. Everyone there was truly excited to be there, which is either a testament to MSTRKRFT themselves, or this electro music revival in general. A lack of pompous arrogance that is normally inhabited at the clubs was a breath of fresh air.

MSTRKRFT - "Easy Love"
Pronounced like Mastercraft, these guys not only know how to make one hell of a music video, but they've also got nothing but style. They're going to be my halloween costume this year. Gold painted goalie masks with hoodies. Creepy ass ish with an indie 'fuk-off' attitude. That's street justice right there.
Anyways, the video is "Easy Love" off their album The Looks. If you like Daft Punk, Justice, Uffie, Simian Mobile Disco, etc... you'll probably like these Canadians as well.
