The Knocks + Wyclef Jean [electro house]

Winter is normally a drag (said everyone, ever). No need to dwell, but it suuuuucks. So it helps when some fun and uplifting music comes around the blogosphere. Nothing too summery that makes you miss the warmth and relaxation on a Saturday in the Park in Chicago (whhhaaaatt did I just do?) But that will come with time. For now, suck it up, watch a few more movies, catch up on your shows, snuggle with a loved one or two.

Right, music.

I'm a sucker for strong and pronounced baselines. The crunchier the better, and underneath The Knocks' down tempo crashes lays that fret clanging bass. Collab'd with Wyclef this time around, "Kiss the Sky" will be on their new album, 55, due out in March (see fig. 1a).

Speaking of collaborating, who aren't The Knocks working with nowadays? Walk the Moon, Phoebe Ryan, Wyclef, Cam'ron, Powers, and Magic Man are all on the new album. Speaking of Powers, she was featured too on The Knocks' more popular tracks evar (see fig. 1b).

Digitalism + RAC [electro pop]

I must've not been blogging at this time last year when this came out.. because there's zero chance this would've missed the site. As it features two of our favorite names in the game, Digitalism and RAC. The original version of the track is verrrrry Digitalism-esque with those bassy synths and korg-styled drum kits.

The lyrics over the original melody are fantastic, and RAC give their patented remix treatment... ie. tight percussion, bright melodies, layered and deep transitions--just the highest of quality you could ask for. I'll literally post any remix by RAC, I'm that enamored with their work.

RAC + Bloc Party [electro pop]

What can I say about RAC... almost everything they've ever released has been on my top10 hit list. And now they're collaborating with Kele Okereke (lead man from Bloc Party and likely the most recognizable voice in all of british indie rock). Winnarz!

Delorean + RAC [electro pop]

RAC is continuing their barrage of amazing music this week as they dropped volume 2 of their remixes. This time around, my favorite Spanish-synthpop outfit gets the RAC treatment.

Anamanaguchi + RAC [8-bit]

8-Bit electronic music always, and i repeat, ALWAYS will have a place deep inside every male ages 24-35. There will be some outside that demo that appreciate the blips and bleeps as well, but those that grew up with the olive screened gameboy and pixelated games from the little gray and black box will listen to those noises and be taken aback to a better time, a better place, where none of us cared about politics, wars, economies, copyright infringements, or the latest apple product.

When music sparks that kind of emotion, even if just a remembrance to another time, it's done it's job. Thank you music.

80's Cover Band Madness

Buffetlibre sent over quit the intriguing link the other day. If you've been sexually active on the blogosphere, then you probably are already aware that these kids are initiating an epic project of the decade. Well maybe not this decade, but one of the last couple decades. Perusing the flyer above, you'll see some pretty heavy names by the likes of GRUM, Culture Prophet, Anoraak, Toxic Avenger, Moulinex, Xinobi, Pink Skull, and We Are Terrorists!

Here's a few direct links, with more to come. Visit Buffetlibre for more retro 80's cover magic! THE POWER IS YOURS! (or was that 90's? hmmmm...) THUNDERCATS! HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Mp3: Anoraak - Talking In Your Sleep (The Romantics Cover) ["A little, yes, as many songs from that time i guess (this song was released in 1983). "Talking in your sleep" is a perfect compromise, as it's an amazing pop song, really representing the things i like, and it's just part of my musical kid background."]

Mp3: Moulinex - Come On Closer (Pineapples Cover) ["It's one of the best italo songs ever. Roberto Ferrante recorded this when he was 18 with a really minimum studio (only a synthesizer and a drum machine, all played by hand without a sequencer!).. For vocals he hired a soldier (!) from the NATO base in Napoli..."]

Mp3: RAC feat Karl King - Take On Me (A-Ha Cover) ["I chose this song because it is by far the catchiest song of the 80's. I also chose it because it's a much faster tempo that I'm used to working with, so in a way it's new challenge."]

Nintendo vs Sega

Mario, Zelda, Sonic... my childhood in a nutshell

Fuck yea bitches!! I'm a few days late posting this... but lets be honest, these tracks aren't going anywhere soon except for my playlist on repeat. RAC (RemixArtistCollective) have released a mini EP featuring 4 tracks of well loved and well remembered old school classics. They brought up a few great points:
"There is incredible value in what these composers did with the limited hardware and this is our way of showing appreciation.

We updated their sounds a little bit and in a way, prove that good songs transcend genres."

Check the tracks below and be sure to give RAC a well deserved visit as they're doing a lot of really cool things over there.
